Review: The Clothing Show

By: Jacquie Burton

As a first timer at the Toronto Clothing Show, I was excited to see the Canadian talent.

First stop was by environmentally friendly Toronto line Precocious. I chatted up owner/designer Melody Cebula who was excited to see her stuff strutted on the runway for the first time ever!
Precocious is knitwear made from reworked, recycled vintage. Every piece is hand-made and one-of-a-kind. I fell in love with the sweaters and their unique but wearable quality.

7:00pm: Before checking out the rest of the vendors, I caught the small but lively runway show set to remixed MGMT and Justice.
First to strut were Melody’s Precocious creations followed by Neveran Jean, So-Fine, The Fairies Pajamas, Playdead Cult and Avendano. The show was lively and left something to be desired.

After the show, I had to be kept on pace or I would’ve just shopped the whole time.
I met Salem at his “Hibebe Collection” booth and HAD to try these black-patent, lace-up boots that were very Givenchy.

We paroused the booths and found stand-out graphic design tees by Forty Seven and Empire and candy-coloured headwear and sweatshirts by Dialogue.

I found the sweetest jewelry I’ve seen in awhile at Love of Mine . President/buyer Anna is opening a high-end boutique in a few months. Her collection includes the cutest snake pendants and most whimsical lockets, plus designer goods!

It was a good time overall and worth checking out next year. If only for the Canadian talent!
