Not just a photographer; Interview with Kareen Ajani

Kareem Ajani is not just a talented, pleasantly humble fashion photographer, he is also a visionary. Perhaps his modest personality and amazing work ethic come from growing up in loving family with three siblings. Passionate about his work,Kareem shoots with a Canon 5D and notes the vibrant David La Chappelle as his favorite photographer.

fashionMOVEMENTZ' Nike Onile got to chat with Kareem recently.

Fairy-tale Inspiration for Dark Fall Fashion

By Jacquie Burton

There is a fairy-tale quality to this season’s goth trend. Instead of looking to the runways, I found inspiration from the beautiful and haunting illustrations that are the work of English artist Arthur Rackham. I remember finding books, cards, and posters of Rackham's fairy illustrations around the house when I was a little girl and immediately falling in love them. It's like I wanted to be one of the whimsical little fairies in the magical drawings. Throughout my life, Rackham's fairy-tale illustrations have brought me comfort and memories of childhood innocence.

They now give me something else: fashion inspiration. As I’m sure you’ll agree, the black lips seen this year at Prada are a tad morbid for real life. I’d rather lighten up my look with fairy-tale innocence. This effectively keeps the theme of old-age darkness while not looking too severe.

Recording Artist, Makeup/Hair Artist, Fashion Stylist

Kim Goodman AKA Blackspanese is one multi-talented, albeit busy woman. Kim is already an established Pro in the Makeup and Fashion world, but she’s got other things on her plate. Blackspanese (coined from her Jamaican/Chinese/Puerto Rican heritage) is a talented musician with an album set to be released in 2009.

Kim actually got her start in the beauty biz by perfecting her friend’s eyebrows, of all things. In high-school she was the go to gal for the perfect tweeze. After graduating from The Marvel School of Makeup Art, Kim’s career took off. She’s worked with Canadian Director Bruce Macdonald, Recording Artist Kardinal Offishall, Project Runway Canada contestant Kendra Francis, and mega cosmetic lines such as MAC and L’Oreal .
fashionMOVEMENTZ’s Nike Onile caught up with the Toronto native for a chat about her successes and goals.

fashionMOVEMENTZ: Back to Fall - Old Navy’s Fall Fashion Preview

This is why I love the fall: the layering, the rich colours, the jackets, the scarves, the boots, and cooled-off comfortable weather. My excitement for fall fashion has been able to take some of the edge off the end-of-summer-blues. This year, I had the privilege of attending Old Navy’s Fall Fashion Preview event at the Eaton’s Center .
