From Press Release

(For immediate release- November 19, 2008) Across the nation, Canadian designers are invited to express their
style savvy for the VIA Rail redesign challenge!
The Fashion Design Council of Canada and VIA Rail Canada are pleased to announce an exciting Canadian
design challenge. The contest is for the design of a fresh and exciting restyling of the VIA Rail uniform for
station and on-train employees. The winning design will be announced and revealed in style to the media,
industry and the fashionable attendees at Fashion Week in Toronto, in March 2009
The call-out to designers to compete started November 17, 2008. What’s in it for the winner? For starters,
$10,000 in VIA Rail travel credits. Beyond that, there is the honour of redesigning the uniform for Canada’s
national passenger rail service, as well as significant national exposure and publicity starting with a public
appearance at the awards ceremony during Fashion Week. Production and manufacturing of the men’s and
women’s uniforms will be done through VIA Rail, a passionate supporter of fashion in Canada.
This innovative national opportunity is open to all Canadian designers who are ready to jump on board with
their design genius for this challenging opportunity.
